'E' is for extra-terrestrial

From Steven Spielberg's ET, to The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951/2008), based on the short story Farewell to the Master by Harry Bates, the subject of extra-terrestrial life has been a fascinating one.  Some writers imagine them vastly different, even monstrous, such as in the movie, Alien.  Or, somewhat similar to humans such as Superman, developed from the DC comics into various movies and television shows.

The Star Wars, Stargate and Star Trek worlds depict extra-terrestrial life in a vast variety that it's difficult to mention all, but here are some of my favourites, in no particular order:

  • Jabba the Hutt - Star Wars
  • Chewbacca - Star Wars
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi - Star Wars
  • Yoda - Star Wars
  • The Vulcans, such as Spock - Star Trek
  • The Klingons - Star Trek
  • The Andorians - Star Trek
  • The various robots and androids, i.e. Lt. Cdr Data - Star Trek
  • The replicators - Stargate
  • The ancients - Stargate
  • The Asgard - Stargate
  • Goa'uld and Teal'c - Stargate
